Larger wires like the main power distribution wires and large wire bundles are secured by Adel clamps.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.velocity-xl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/2013-12-13-IMG_20131213_101703_841a.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-1548\" src=\"https:\/\/www.velocity-xl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/2013-12-13-IMG_20131213_101703_841a-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"2013-12-13 IMG_20131213_101703_841a\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s also possible to use Adel clamps for smaller wire bundles. This is the autopilot roll servo wire harness.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.velocity-xl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/2014-08-01-IMG_20140801_080749709-Large.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-1885\" src=\"https:\/\/www.velocity-xl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/2014-08-01-IMG_20140801_080749709-Large-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"2014-08-01 IMG_20140801_080749709 (Large)\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>But in some places, Adel clamps are difficult to use if there&#8217;s limited space\/access since they have to be screwed in and they&#8217;re a bit overkill for small wire runs.<\/p>\n<p>One of the places they won&#8217;t work is on the gear legs.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t want to do anything that could affect the integrity of the gear leg like drilling a hole in it.<\/p>\n<p>So I picked up a bag of plastic wire tie mounts with self adhesive foam backing at Oshkosh.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.velocity-xl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/12.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-1883\" src=\"https:\/\/www.velocity-xl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/12-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"$_12\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.velocity-xl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/12-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.velocity-xl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/12-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.velocity-xl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/12.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Because the gear leg is not smooth, I made some &#8220;pads&#8221; with epoxy\/cabo covered by some small 1&#8243;x1&#8243; pieces of wood covered with duct tape.\u00a0 Once the epoxy cured, I popped off the wood and had a perfectly flat surface to attach the foam mount to.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the gear leg with the wire mount.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.velocity-xl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/2013-11-08-IMG_20131108_175421_131-Large.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-1886\" src=\"https:\/\/www.velocity-xl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/2013-11-08-IMG_20131108_175421_131-Large-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"2013-11-08 IMG_20131108_175421_131 (Large)\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It held pretty good&#8230; for a while.\u00a0 Then it came loose.\u00a0 The amount of pull on the wires when the gear retracts is just more than the foam adhesive can handle. I even found some other places that didn&#8217;t have much stress on them which came loose as well.\u00a0 And since it&#8217;s made out of nylon, finding a glue that can adhere to it would be a pain.
