First I mount the canard on the fuselage then covered the top of the canard where the doghouse rests with duct tape. Then fill the bottom of the doghouse with epoxy\/cabo and lower the doghouse onto the canard.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">Epoxy\/Cabo mix squishing out.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.velocity-xl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/2008-08-12-1553-IMG_7324.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-2414\" src=\"https:\/\/www.velocity-xl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/2008-08-12-1553-IMG_7324-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"2008-08-12 1553 IMG_7324\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">Once it cures, a quick cleanup of the excess epoxy and I&#8217;ve got a perfect fit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">Now for another departure from the plans. The manual has the doghouse being attached to the canard torsion tabs with four screws. There&#8217;s nothing wrong with this approach, but there&#8217;s another way that doesn&#8217;t use any externally visible fasteners.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">First I cut a length of piano hinge a little less than the length of the opening. Then I drill four holes through the hinge and tab.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">Here the hinge is temporarily held in place with cleco&#8217;s.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.velocity-xl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/2008-08-13-1535-IMG_7326.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-2416\" src=\"https:\/\/www.velocity-xl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/2008-08-13-1535-IMG_7326-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"2008-08-13 1535 IMG_7326\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">Then I countersink the screw holes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.velocity-xl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/2008-08-13-1634-IMG_7327.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-2417\" src=\"https:\/\/www.velocity-xl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/2008-08-13-1634-IMG_7327-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"2008-08-13 1634 IMG_7327\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">Apply some structural adhesive and screw it in place. I then drilled out the four holes to about 1\/2&#8243; and filled the area with epoxy\/milled fiber\/cabo. Once it cured, the drilled it out again.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.velocity-xl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/2008-08-15-0609-IMG_7331.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-2408\" src=\"https:\/\/www.velocity-xl.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/2008-08-15-0609-IMG_7331-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"2008-08-15 0609 IMG_7331\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">I covered the top half of the hinge with structural adhesive, lowed the doghouse in place and inserted bolts though the holes from the outside into the hinge. Put the nuts on and tightened.
